Stretchers Youth Organization (SYO) with support from UNDP and Kituo cha Sheria is implementing a project focused on enhancing awareness and access to the Small Claims Court. The project targets women in business, aiming to educate them on the provisions and benefits of the Small Claims Act of 2016. The initiative seeks to empower women entrepreneurs to assert their rights, seek justice, and resolve financial disputes through the Small Claims Court efficiently by equipping them with the necessary legal knowledge. The project also strives to accelerate the uptake of claims by providing guidance and support to women navigating the legal process.

Through legal education, capacity-building sessions, and direct assistance in filing claims, SYO is working to bridge the gap between small-scale business owners and accessible justice. Since the project’s inception, the organization has successfully facilitated the filing of 4 cases, with one already winning a case and getting the justice they deserve.

These milestones demonstrate the project’s impact in promoting legal empowerment, encouraging more businesswomen to utilize the court system, and fostering a culture of legal awareness within the community. The initiative still aims to support more women in accessing justice, strengthening their financial security, and reinforcing the role of the Small Claims Court as an essential tool for business dispute resolution.
